I want to obtain a simple (mechanical or electronic) time switch that plugs into a 13amp socket. A cable then runs from the time switch via a 13amp plug (with suitable small fuse) to a table lamp or bedside light with either a CFL or LED light fitted. Does anybody know of a make of plug-in time switch that will work with these low energy light bulbs as the time switches I have so far looked at do not appear to do so? To be fair the accompanying instructions tend only to mention CFLs and are silent re LEDS.

As The Ninth says , any plug in timer will do for what you want.

Try a Grasslin plug-in  auto-mechanical 24 hour timer , just the simple dial with fingers that you click outwards to determine the ON period  .
