Hi All

Kitchen company I do some work for want to reuse an existing 4" vent from the utility room in the house to the ajoining garage for a tumble drier.

Can anybody think of any exact regs they will break by using this. Seems to me this should break some building regs to do with fire. Hole was put in 6 months ago by "a plumber we wouldn't use again"

Discharging a vent into another room or area does'nt seem like a good idea to me .

But then I think , hang on, I'm the Sparky, why am I concerning myself with ventilation problems , builder's problem, I have enough of my own, IMHO .

Big time against fire compartment regs..

Put it this way, if you have an attached garage and it has a door into the house then it must be a fire door,, ceilings in a garage need to have 1hr rating IIRC

Would you vent anything into the garage? First thing is the condensation caused in the garage, moist wet air into cold enclosed space not a good idea! Also cutting an open 4" hole through a wall into a garage from the house just smacks of a bad fire risk. Would you really cut that size hole to bring cable through and not fill it with firefoam or similar? Would think there would be something in building regs about this.

Just want to shove a Reg in their face and say they need to brick up the hole and think about a different way to vent the tumble.
