is it me getting older or is most flat cable getting hard to trip out sheath. usualy when you strip the flat cable you get the white powder (ferench chalk?) now its totaly dry

You are not buying the white sheathed LSF stuff? I hate that with a vengance. WHY can we only get white sheathed by buying LSF It used to be the case you could buy ordinary PVC in white or grey.

I don't now how true this is, but on the *other* forum somebody said white t&e was mostly available only down in the south. I used it a lot in the 80s and 90s good for clipped surface work but hardly anyone does this now.

white sheath is LSF since the colour change

previously, at least up north, white was usually what was sold in DIY shops, grey from wholesalers

First noticed difficulty in stripping PVC T&E several years ago, with Prysmian. Some cable seemed as though there was no chalk at all. I don't use a lot of T&E, but it's pot luck with what local wholesalers stock - when paying a bit more for, what is supposed to be, a higher quality cable, I expect it to be easier to strip than cheaper imported options.

Yes even 40 years ago cheaper twin and earth no branding on the drum was a mare to strip possibly imported cable. The branded cable bicc, pirelli, Doncaster were far better.

Makes it easier for the clerk of works to see when someone has installed PVC in a job where the spec calls for all LSF...
Think the last time i seen a clerk of works was in sheltered housing complex in the 80's. Hence why the steady decline in workmanship over the years . Now every thing is about getting the project over the line and worry about issues later no matter the standard .
Retired 4 years now😁
