Right I'm fitting a light that has been brought over from the USA. Got it all wired to a switch etc but I'm starting to have a funny feeling that the us uses 110v 60hz? I've just powered it up and it tripped the mcb. Got the megger out and it's testing fine.......wtf??? Help!!!!

more info needed me thinks...

Is this a new light..  Or a secondhand item someone has taken down and brought back to UK?

I am presuming no manufactures spec or instructions available??

What type of lamps does this fitting take???

Bog standard mains... or low voltage.. or LED... or CFL  ect..??

Is it a metal fitting?

Was the RCD tested PRIOR to you changing the light.??

Is the polarity correct on the house wires you are connecting onto??

What actual megger tests did you do and what were the results....

the circuit or the fitting or both???

etc...

:popcorn

Right brand new light, only instructions were how to assemble no technical spec on bulbs etc

E14 bulbs don't fit....just a tad too small. Got a e12 from local hardware and that fits.......meggered new wiring and came up >999 as it was fine when I started, rcd is fine, continuity is spot on, remade terminations and now it's fine.......just need to source 20 low energy e12 bulbs from somewhere.

It was a head scratcher tbh.....then again I'm not those most experienced of sparkles tbf
