Uuv Communication System

i am working in UUV graduation project i have problem to choose the communication media wire or wireless 

can i put WiFi broadband or xbee module on small ship over water and connect it to UUV underwater by wire to transmit video from IP camera to PC and receive control signal to arduino from PC and how mach the range can i get it ?? or use wire communication ??

i think you'd need wired... no idea how well wifi / bluetooth would work in water, but id expect badly

depends what range you want as density of water severely effects range of radio waves - I suspect range will be very short indeed, but if you only need a foot or 2 it may work??? Nuclear subs use extra long wavelengths, in the kilometer wavelength range. Random info that probably doesn't help. If you notice underwater robots/subs are generally wired, but they go quite deep and that is partly for power reasons in many cases.
