Hi Folks,

I seem to be receiving a growing number of (mostly domestic) enquiries regarding various types of bulbs/lamps blowing !!

I check for volt-drop, fitting/switching & wiring issues, but in the main I can't provide a solution - other than perhaps finding a reliable lamp supplier !!

Any assitsance regarding this annoying issue would be appreciated.

Cheers,

JimG.

Stop buying lamps at the pound shop.

Other than that, my theory is lamps are now made for 230V since that's the voltage we are on isn't it?

Well not round here, 245V is pretty normal.

As Dave says

Usually comes down to one or more of the following 3 things in my experience

Cheap lamps

Voltage too high

Dodgy fitting, either due to slack terminals or weak springs.

Same reason we got horse in the beefburgers etc...

manufacturing quality standards dropped significantly...

Plus the lamps then spend a long journey been rattled around from the country of manufacturer till they get to your door....

so they have had most of the life shook out of them before they even get plugged into a lamp holder!!!

don't carry spare lamps in van either - kills them off. You may have also noticed increasing push by wholesalers of 'fire rated fittings' which tend to overheat lamps aswell

If issue is really persistant, may be worth fitting Voltage Optimiser
