OK, all my business data is on a pen drive, it's not my master drive and it's only 30GB!!!!!!!!!

but it has got all our photos from the last 6 years on it:_| :_| :_| :_| :_| :_|

and I don't think any of them have been backed up:_| :_| :_| :_| :_| :_|

Well now you know the meaning of backing up data..

The Boys

I had the same thing on my laptop. took the HDD to a nearby shop and a little while later I had a couple of DVDs with pretty much all my files on them! he charged me a tenner!
But a back up would of saved all this hassle and expense.

If your important data is just a few GB's then back up on a DVD or two, for example or get another Hard drive.

(Photographic memories are so easily lost)

The Godfather

Some of your business banks will offer a free backup service; up to 2 GB. Plus, it is automatic; whenever more than 24hrs goes by, and my machine is on, the system backs up specified directoriesl via encryption, to their remote server. My bank gives me 2GB free.

They spec. No media files, but zipped or archived files go straight through :)

I store all my documents etc. on a separate internal hard drive. Just in case my operating system becomes infected with a virus, and I need to re-install my operating sytem.

I then back up that separate internal hard drive to an external hard drive, in case the separate internal hard drive malfunctions. I do this on on a weekly basis.

Mines exactly the same although i have 3 partitions :)

1 for OS

1 for software

1 for back up

Then Ive got a external HD on my network, plugged direct to router so can save stuff to that from either PC or laptop :)

Ive got about 70gb of photos lol :(

I back up to an external hard drive using Norton 360 which does everything automatically.

I have about 30gb of music most of which is irreplaceable & came from my old vinyl & music cassettes which I digitally remastered & converted to MP3.

Is it worth getting a data recovery co to have a go??How much do they charge??
if you format the HDD and it works, then you can recover everything yourself. done this a few times. and if your bored, you can search your hard drive/usb drives etc and find just about everything you deleted many years ago

search for a program called 'file scavenger'

its not free though

Dane,

You should not be backing up to the same PHYSICAL drive,, if it fails then you've lost all 3 partitions!!

ALL important stuff saves to the external drive main reason for partitions is if i need to reinstall the OS i can do without loosing everything :)

I'm fully on board with that,,, It's a good idea!!

That's sort of how I had mine..

OS & software on 1st HDD

PHOTOS on 2nd HDD

DATA on removable pen drive

It's just that my 2nd HDD has now failed....
