Be a good joke when you get smacked in the head with something and youve damaged the piece of equipment that should protect you.

Didn't / Don't you guys have any fun?

Out of Curiosity, How many have actually Wrote their name or anything else on their hard hats? Or even put a sticky label on there?

Mine have various company labels on. Mates a sign writer so did me hundreds of panel stickers, which get stuck on anything.

Polycarbonate and solvents in marker pens, sticker adhesive etc dont mix and can cause cracks.
Yeah, had a feeling that was going to be the case. First time I've heard this though. If it's a major issue then surely it would have been mentioned on one of the many site inductions or health and safety courses, or somewhere anyway as loads of plastics have stickers and markers all over them and are still in one piece.

It was what I was taught on my Health & Saftey course Years ago, when I did my Telescopic reach Licence. :)

Weakens the structure of the hat. :)

with the abuse my hat suffered from my temper the pen marks are the last of its worries!

Not sure if its such an issue with stickers etc these days. I remember spraying my visor on my bike helmet with solvent cleaner and it went like a smashed car windscreen and broke int tiny pieces

It's the same for plastic motorbike helmets, the solvent can cause weaknesses
deffo still the case, why any decent bike helmet is made of fibreglass or some other composite,

my hard hat is made from something else or other for this reason.

makes you wonder tho about all these site inductions where they put a sticker on your hard hat to show you have been inducted,

my mate has about 10 on his standard plastic hard hat,

who gets the blame when it fails? and if he doesnt have the sticker on then he cant go on site........

Stickers and writing should never be put onto a hard hat, nor should any oil or sovlent, mine is filthy dirty with my name written on it and many different stickers and other bits of graffiti!! Maybe it will weaken it stightly but I'll take my chances. For those who never put anything on theres just incase it weakens it slightly do you replace it evertime you drop it? Do you store it so it can't fall over or impact anything in the back of the van? Because if you drop a hard hat then it needs instantly replacing - mine is also covered in scratches and dings!!
