Guys, I have a job next week installing a CCTV kit that a customer has bought and they want to be able to view the images on ALL the TVs in the house, their desk top Mac and mobile phones.

I'm going to be putting the recorder near their router and I'll connecting to the TVs via their video phono sockets,,,,, I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of what coax is needed??

Any 75 ohm coax.

you might run into loading issues if trying to connect ONE video feed to several monitors, each terminated at 75 ohm.

but try it and see.

OK so the DVR is connected to the network, then that covers all the computing devices.

Do any of the TV's have network connections?

If so then that may be the easiest solution?

Cat5 all around!

Or wifi?...

I can access ip addy's on our tv and it diaplays the file content, surely the ip of the dvr would present a suitable interface to a dumb deevice?

Loads of different ways to do this. If they have an aerial amp/system you could fit a modulator between the dvr and the amp to be able to watch it on any tv on the existing cables.

The dvr will have to be programed to the router and if they dont have a static IP address you wont be able to view the system outside the host wifi. I think Swann are introducing their own server to get round this. Newer better tv, s have built in wifi that could be used, or cat 5 or coax.

All these transmision ways are to view the picture only. You have to have access to the dvr to review any recordings so it needs its own monitor. I have used a monitor switch so the home pc monitor doubles up for the cctv to save space

Doh.....

I started this job yesterday... he'd added 2 more cameras

Got the cameras all wired up, got the composite video cables to tvs.... doh... no composite video output... now I need to get a HDMI to composite convertor.

I also downloaded the mac software... doesn't work on 10.8.2 only supported to 10.7 :shakehead ... got the software working fine in his iPhone 5 (over wifi),,,,, I just need to get it working over interweb now... any ideas (they're on talk talk)

From memory of the last CCTV i installed, Swann have got their own ddns portal, I think there is a link on their website.  Set up an account its just username and password http://www.swann.com/s/techcenter/DDNS.  Then on the dvr go into DDNS settings and type in the username ie [email protected] or whatever it is.

Allocate the DVR a fixed IP address in its set up menu.

Then you will have to go into the talktalk router and do the port forwarding for the fixed IP address that you allocated to the DVR and there are 3 ports that need inbound/ outbound traffic opening.

If you get stuck like I did then go on youtube and lookup portforwarding for cctv or xbox as thats what helped me to set up the network side of things.

Sorry cant be more specific
