aidan. yeah thats what i was thinking of doing, seen lots of gadgets for the navara pull out tables with work benches and a vice on lol. and side opening door on the roof like the mountain rescure have, there are drawers in them.

but i agree a van will be alot easier. the t5 is nice not so keen on the merc tho.

Don't forget you can have the small van/4x4 combination in a Shogun 4work, Shogun Sport 4work, Terrano, Freelander etc.

How can you throw things into neat little drawers quickly at the end of a day?

Best thing about a van is being able to chuck stuff in

I drive an old Renault Megane Scenic. I've taken out two rear seats, made a box/shelf for cable and tester, and fitted a 3 and 4 draw storage units in the rear for stock parts. Drills/Saws fit nicely in the rear footwells. Space under front seats for oddball bits like self tappers and bolts.

Can get 3m conduit in and step ladder fits nicely over the front and rear seat headrests so doesn't shift.

As you have 5 door access all of the space can be used - and I reckon I can get as much useful stuff in this car as I could in my old firms Renault Trafic.

As vans can be overpriced - i would recommend this as a great cheap startup vehicle.

I drive a vauxhall vectra estate and i have no problems with it as a can get ladders on roof and everything i need int the back without folding the seats down (mostly).I was also thinking about the pick up with hardtop.

Ive got a t5 transporter 130. And i love it. Looks smart but not too overstated. as steps said, you need to make the right impression. Been remapped so goes like stink too, but good on derv. Navaras are nice motors but i would never get one for work. would waste so much time climbing in and out, bad on fuel, and pain the backside for parking, turning circle etc. Its all very well having a nice work vehicle but at the end of the day you will be running a business, so you need to think like a business man, save your money and dont go for all the extras, spoilers and big wheels. Use the money to save up for a nice car, holiday, reinvest in your business or house. ;)

I manage quite well with my old Escort 55 D TBH . This is the third one in a row . Used a Renault Traffic some years back when I did a lot of industrial work, that was very good, but I find I don't need the room these days . Ladders and steps can go on the roof.

For domestic work you don't need the bigger vans in my opinion .

i see so many vans that dont utlilise the space.

i reckon i fill 80% of the space in mine but can have it empty in 5 lifts

racking and loading systems do work wonders

plan its use/layout is my tip

I have a Transit connect SWB and when I was shopping around for insurance I couldn't beleive the difference in prices. Before the connect I nearly got an Astra van but That would have been too small..

When I come to replace my van I'll definately be looking at the Expert/scudo vans and probably even a transit

BTW you can fit 3m lengths of plastic conduit/trunking in a Kangoo, but it has to go into the passenger footwell

Used to have a connect but it was just too small was ok then I was subbying and didnt have to carry everything was nice to drive, but did have a fair share of mechanical problems (clutch, starter motor, egr valve)

Got a VW T5 now and love it. Enough room and easy to keep organised. Nice to drive but you know you are driving a van the connect was more like a car. Mines a bit underpowered but the weight of the racking doesnt help! Goes anywhere in the snow with chains on. They are expensive but I think money well spent.

What about that big pouch on the front? you can fit loads in there?

Just picked up my Transit Connect today, 04 plate. Paid a little more than I intended but has lots of new parts and a long mot.
