I have come across this piece of equipment,Its quite big, about 1.5m long by 0.75m wide?? it was from a power station and all i can gather is its a "portable earthing device" and as i have never worked in a power station or any sort of work like that, i have no idea what it is??

Im sure someone here will though......

I think it's a portable earth for withdrawable switchgear.

But I could be wrong.

You're right...

The circuit breakers for the mains and generators at one of my previous places of employment (a hospital) used had to be racked out for maintenance... Don't know if it was the same setup but must have had something similar in place.

Seems that when you rack them out the earth is disconnected but a potential for a large induced current is still there and this wee beauty keeps us from bein fried.

Thoroughly interesting stuff! Should I admit that I am considering buying this book? Blushing

yeah well the equipment was in a room which had a a row of panels that were about 3ft high by 18inch wide, hey were all on runner and after being unlocked could be wheeled out.

Is it of value to anyone? Or what sort of person may be intersted in this? I dont think your everyday spark would be interested

Don't think I need it in my current garage rewire!!

But ta just the same...
