Can anyone tell me what this is?

It has a grill to the outside wall.

It has been painted over and I'm not sure at the moment whether it is functional.

Thats a on/off switch, with a adjustable control...

The outside vent is confusing me?

Well without switching the unit on, I don't know..

But as you can see it (& the other 2) have been painted over...

Andy, it does look like it extracts (from the view of the external grill)...

and that does appear to be a lever on the bottom half, perhaps access to a filter??
