what mcb"s to carry

My boss is starting to send me out to do EICR"s after carrying out a few with him shadowing me, and he's impressed and setting me up to start testing on my own, What is a good selection of mcb"s and rcds to carry, what are the most common? What do you guys carry? Mostly general domestic, cheers guys

 
I wouldnt do EICR's without a couple of years of experience Sam. What would you do if you have found something that you havent seen before (I have seen back boxes in houses dating back to the 1940's, so there is still a lot of old installations about).

A PIR is more like a MOT, you shouldn't really need MCBs and RCDs.

What you'd be better off carrying is bits and pieces to rectify any C1s that you come across, exposed live parts and the like. So JB's, chock boxes, small adaptable boxes,,,, that kind of thing

 
Sam , theres no hard & fast guidance on what to carry TBH.

As fuel costs went up I've dumped a load of stuff from the van TBH. If you carried thirty diffent types of breaker it will still be one you havn't got. Its Sod's Law.

My M8 Bob the Breakdown carried so much in his Transit ,(even pulley blocks for lifting motors out,) the police pulled him for overloading .

Anyway a PIR is a report only unless you have carte blanche to carry out corrections . In this trade you can never carry enough gear to cover all situations.

 
I'm doing a big PIR for a big client and have been for a few weeks, have the OK to do all C1's & C2's within reason, they won't let me replace the

Plus a small selection of CU blanking plates or modules, to fill in the empty MCB slots, that for some strange reason are often left open. Not much cost or weight involved, but could prevent someone poking their finger in a fuse box.

I even have a bit of trunking lid and some superglue for the odd one that a normal blank just wont seem to fit, its OK IMO for a temp measure.

 
Grommet strip, grommets, blanking plugs and locknuts/rings. Wylex 3036 blanks, adaptable boxes, choc boxes/ WAGOs. Earth marshalling bars, 951 clamps and those brilliant newish Legrand ones [freaking brilliant], spare 951 metal labels [handy to rive a screw through on the meter board.

As for breakers...I have upwards of 800 in number 3 shed ranging from 2A upto 630A [i actually supply some local wholesalers with them]...have I ever got the correct one? Have I flip!!

Best bet is get a list of wholesalers local to your jobsite...makes life much easier. I even make a mental note of the suppliers when approaching a 'new to me site' even if it is CEF ;washes mouth out with carbolic....... :coat

 
M3.5 screws...........cpc sleeving............brown sleeving.............both colours labels............spare pens, toilet roll........

 
Great ideas, il ring a few wholesalers and write them down so I kno who stocks what when I need them, I'm starting of in my own car until they sort me out a van so I goto keep it to a minimum ,

Got the tissue at the ready for the two Bob bits :p
