When Sending Your Apprentice On An Errand ......... Beware

We were working on the top floor of a new build block of flats doing the 1st fix.

The apprentice was asked to go down to the gang of sparks working on the flat below and borrow some expanding foam.

When he returned he was not carrying a can so we were puzzled.

Until he put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a sticky gooey handful of foam !

The sparks had told him that they needed the foam and that he could just take a bit - then they squirted it into his coat pocket !!!! :red card

anyone got any other stories like this ?

Yes;  about the one who was told to fill THAT engine with THAT oil.

He did.  Right to the top of the cover over the camshaft.

Had all the usual, but caught one of our lads out with the can you go to the stores and get an imperial adjustable spanner. He came back with a spanner and apologised and said they only had this metric one will that do.

I heard 2 similar ones about engines.

The first was send the apprentice to check the coolant level on a VW Beetle (they had air cooled engines)

The second was in a bus garage. The apprentice was sent to top up the engine oil. He returned half an hour later saying he could not get the oil down that little hole.  He was trying to pour the oil down the dipstick hole.

the oil on my trooper is filled from the dipstick hole. although it is wide enough to do that easily

we were working on a compressor in a factory once and had to stop the line. one of the machine operators called one of the apprentices over and said nip up to the stores and get another drum of compressed air. as he was leaving he called him back and said make sure you get one of the vacuum packed ones . he came back about 15 mins later and called us all lots of swear words.
