Where To Put Switch Live In New Light Fitting

Hi, bit of guidance needed.

My existing light fitting has four connections in the joining block, labelled live (which has 3 brown wires connected), neutral (with 2 blue wires connected), earth (3 green and yellow wires connected) and something I can't make out but the switch cable is wired into it ( blue with brown tape). The new light fitting has 3 connections, labelled live, neutral and earth.

Also the existing block has separate holes for each wire in each connection, the new one has only one bigger hole in each connection.

Where is the correct place to put the switch live wire? I have pics but I can't see how to attach on this forum.

The connector labelled live is for the switched live. the other 3 need connecting together with a suitable connector.

Duplicate post deleted. As Barx say's the 3 live wires needed connecting together but not to the light. They are permanent lives, supply from Fuse box, Supply to Switch and Supply to next light in circuit. The Single Switched live (your blue with brown tape) is the live for the light fitting. It is a switched live, as you only want the light to come on when the switch is on. Otherwise it would be permanently on!

Check the box carefully. Most new light fittings provide a spare connector block for that purpose.

If this is just a one off task then a basic screw terminal connector is one solution. However if you have other fittings to replace or other jobs where you will be disconnecting and reconnecting cables, a lot of electricians prefer modern push & lever fit connectors such as Wago's supplied buy one of our forum sponsors. They are more expensive, but far more convenient and speedy to connect up.
