.. Morning Chaps.

I wrote down the Windows Product Key when I first bought my PC. I cannot find where I put it. :(

On the sticker on the side of the PC, It has part worn, where we have been cleaning, so I can only see a partial key.

There is a way of finding out what your registration code is by looking through the pc, But - I can't remember what it is.

Does anyone know of the way to do it Please?

be wary of programs and key finders incase they are hidden viruses

best bet is to phone microsoft up and ask them advice.

Have you checked out either of these sites for info..?

http://www.webtechgeek.com/How-to-Find-a-lost-Windows-product-key.htm

scroll down the page a bit and it refers to..

B. Software: there are some freeware software programs that can help you: Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder: One of the best free tool for this task. In addition to finding and identifying product keys for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, it can also uncover product keys for installed versions of Microsoft Office.

ROCKXP: is a free program that lets your retrieve and change your Windows XP Product Key.

Windows Key Finders: This is actually a group of tools that can be used for unearthing product keys for different versions of Windows.
and...

this website also refers to..

Older RecommendationsSome neat utilities to help you find stuff about your system:

Aida32: http://www.sofotex.com/AIDA32-download_L9326.html

Belarc Advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Magic Jelly Bean: http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

Nirsoft: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

Good thing about these tools is they also find a lot of other details about your system.
"magic jelly bean" is referred to by both sites??

Have never used it myself ..

but as two different sites refer to the some of the same utilities...

may be worth a shot?? ?:|

Hi Specs,

That is the site that I posted a link to, in my OP. It gave me a completely different Product Key to that (that remains) on the side of my tower. :(

Oh dam! :( :(

From what I read...

there are ways of getting it from the registry details IF you are running win95 or win98...

BUT XP and later.... has been changed.

(which would make sense to reduce pirate copies etc.. i spose?)

which is what these programs a meant to do..

which brings us back to FS suggestion...

"your best bet is to ring a proper Microsoft help desk! :) ; )"

better safe than sorry I guess!

If ya need a program to get your product ID and product key let me know.

We have a purchased product which extracts them from the computer - no worries of viruses or anything.
