Assume you can't get heavy guage flex? 

never assume. you can get flex in many sizes.... largest i keep in stock wouldnt even fit into the cooker terminals

getting more than 6mm flex in most cooker terminals could be fun! 

I wou;ld wire it to ne of the 6mm cables and see how you get on. If by some remote miracle it trips the MCB, upgrade the MCB to 40A, provided cable isn't being run through insulation or other factor that may degrade its rating.6mm is good for 40Amps
