Wiring question

Is this outside light wired correctly? Instructions don't mention a white wire. Bought from B&Q.

I doubt it and certainly wouldn't switch it on without further information.

If that terminal block is the original one that came with the fitting, and it is meant to slot into those two plastic lugs on the wall plate... then looking at the L, E, N written on the back plate, then it probably is wired correctly...?

The visible cobwebs suggest this is not a new light fitting you are installing?

Is it something that has stopped working? e.g. it no longer switches on... it will not switch off.... when it does switch on, it no longer gives full brightness... it flashes like a strobe when the power to it is on... etc.. ?

Your link suggest it should operate automatically via an integral PIR sensor..

If it has stopped working it could be a failed PIR sensor, Or failed LED driver, Or failed LED lamp..?

But as this also appears to be a completely integrated unit with everything built-in and no user replacement parts!
So its time to bin it and get a better quality light...

l was going to say that looks like some cheap B&Q tat... but as it is listed as £45.. Its more like expensive B&Q tat!!!
I am sure a few years ago, I removed a similar looking B&Q lamp that a customer had fitted, after it had failed within 12months!

My concern would be the internal wires. At a guess the black and white are for live and switched live, (from an internal PIR). If my guess is right, putting either of them in the neutral is a recipe for smoke.

There is no Switch-live wording on the wall plate, and probably not enough space for a 4-way block...
The B&Q website spec states that it has no Override facility...
thus to my understanding the switched live has no termination you can connect onto.

I think its just poor design B&Q tat with Black & white L&N to the PIR sensor.

Guessing that the switch live from the sensor to the lamp is inside the fitting not visible/accessible..

Then the Blue is the neutral for the lamp itself, as the built-in sensor is all pre-sealed and lacks anywhere to terminate a neutral for the lamp.

As said previously from the cob-webs this is not a new lamp and I would assume the OP is actually opening it up trying to figure out why it has now stopped working?

The instruction manual is available on the B&Q web site at the bottom of the product listing, excerpt below. The wiring diagram shows only three wires to be connected so either the instructions are wrong or a wire has been added. The line/neutral colours for the UK are stated to be red/black or brown/blue. So you would not expect it to work if the brown and blue wires are connected together. No mention of a white coloured wire.

But only 3 wires have been connected by the end user. There would be no reason for the end user to add a wire that is not required. (Also, how could the OP add a wire?)
Taking the above to be correct, the instructions are wrong/out of date.

Also Black and White are common in the USA for Live and Neutral, maybe it was designed for them? (who knows, who cares?) but later changed.

I am not going to mention the white PVC flex used outdoors.

We will just have to wait for breno.de.assis273@carpeco to reply.
