sorry to resurrect this thread, but, there must be a compromise position that is good for employer and employee, would be interested to know what peoples thoughts are on this. I ask because i want good well motivated staff, but as an employer I also need to eep overheads down to compete with the winkers.

My current thought on this is something along the lines of a nominal employed number of hours eg 16 hours per week, but with a share of the business, so a lump sum can be earned depending on the success of the business. Kind of self-employed, but without the agro of being self employed.

On reflection, I had the position that they were not a favourable option.

Having heard and read opinion on the radio and in the press, the real

offence is caused when the contract is presented but the fact that it is

a zero hours contract is not fully explained and possibly hidden.

As most of us know there is a quantity of information that must be within

a contract of employment and the conditions of employment should be

clearly set out, preferably in bullet point form.

Contracts like these probably suit a great number of people who want to

work flexibly and who may have more than one job. No objections to this

BUT, clear and unambiguous communication is vital.

BTW may I wish all a Happy New Year.  I hope all goes well for everyone

on this forum.
