Had some issues recently on a light fitting and a Zodin photocell head.
The installation has been there some years now and the flood light is a 250wt son. Nothing has changed with the installation or use of the building (a teaching mechanical workshop) before Easter while at the property I noticed the flood light was on so changed the faulty head. All was fine until three days later I got a call saying the flood light was on. I put this down to a faulty head and replaced it again this time with a head from a different supplier and used a SS4ED rather than the SS4D as fitted before.
Not more than a week later the call came in again saying the light was on! One more head fitted. Can't have two faulty ones can I? This one lasted about a week again. Having a cherry picker on site I decided to change the light. I had a Thorn 250wt in stock and as the client is one of our top ones and the work is plentiful I replaced the light as FOC and again with the photocell head. Two days later yes you guessed it the light was back on.
I fitted a contractor to take the load away from the cell head to no avail as again the head failed, then a time clock to restrict the run time. I even set the head working by covering it up 14 times and it worked every time, but about four days later it was back on.
This coming week I'm going to fit a Power correction factor capacitor to the circuit to reduce the switch arching and hopefully stop the contacts from welding shut.
Has anyone had this problem? And if anyone wants a test head I now have six!
