Hi there guys I need some help, I bought a book by Christopher kircher and I am doing a exercise no 2 if any has it , any way it ask you to fill out a EIC , the circuit is ring 63 metres in total and in t.e 2.5/1.5 Ze is 0.28 ohms I worked out using OSG R1 as being 0.46 ohms and R2 being 0.76 ohms anyway I got Zs as 0.58 ohms using calc r1 + r2 / 4 then add Ze 0.28 ohms but in the book the answer is 0.37 ohms can any one help and explain where I'm going wrong thanks

I get a similar answer to you, so you'll probably find that either the answer is wrong in the book, or they've misprinted the info for the question - happens a lot with these type of books.....I don't think they actually get anyone to proof read.

Your calculations look reasonable to me, if they say Zs should be 0.37ohms but Ze is 0.28ohms that only gives you 0.09ohms for your R1+R2 component. Could this be a printing error? maybe their answer should read 0.57? rather than 0.37?

Sounds good to me, Doc, because I got 0.56 and the OP got 0.58..........so you could be spot on there.

In fact I've just checked my calcs - had I rounded up like I should have, then I would have got 0.57.

Well guys that's made my day as you all have the same answer as me , this book has a load of mistakes in it I wished I'd never of bought the sam thing now , it says it s the perfect book for any one looking to do the 2391 but with all these mistakes in it if you don't understand what u r supposed be doing it can really throw u thanks for all your responses TEF is the best

Try working it backwards from their answer.....Zs = 0.37 Ze = 0.28 so they have (R1+R2)/4 = 0.09.....with me so far?

0.09 x 4 = 0.36

0.36 / 63 therefore equals what they think the resistance of 1m of 2.5/1.5 is .0057 Which is NOT correct [not got BGB with me at present so am prepared to be flamed]

So THEY have got something wrong somewhere!

If it is any help I got the same answer as you................ :coat

I think we have had some incorrect information quoted form this book before. I suspect as ADS suggests, proof reading may be in need of a higher standard.

TEF is the best, you are correct!

i have found about 5 mistakes so far n the book in regards to questions, I just hope the explanations and how to do the tests are accurate otherwise I am reading it for nothing.
