    RCBO needed or not???

KME, Believe it does, for a sub main >32A, as long as the cable routes don't require 30mA protection & you protect the final ccts with 30mA. Will check, but PG (NICEIC AE) passed one for me last yr like that!

    RCBO needed or not???

1st protective device TD RCD circa 100mA, or 30mA if required. Split this into 2 supplies via Henleys. Supply house via instantaneous RCD devices as appropriate. Supply to outbuildings via MCB to local CU, then outbuilding supplies via 30mA instantaneous RCD. Split 2 ways at Henleys...

    RCBO needed or not???

One thing, you say garage supply is clipped direct outside, not T&E is it as this is NOT UV resistant?...

    RCBO needed or not???

YEP use the 100mA as an installation main switch for the lot, however, it MUST be time delayed, S type. This type of install is familiar I can show you one if you want not far away from your location!

    RCBO needed or not???

Hmmmm, All I can suggest then is change RCD main switch for a main switch and change the "house" mcb's to RCBo's. EXPENSIVE!!! Can't immediately think of any other way to supply from this board... Another option would be to add some Henleys and fit a secondary supply to the garage? Try...

    RCBO needed or not???

Re-arrange the board? Can you fit a main switch and then the MCB, then the RCD, then the "house"?
  8. N

    RCBO needed or not???

MCB in house, RCD in garage. Forget about discrimination with instantaneous RCD's NO MATTER what the rating! If you want to achieve discrimination use a time delay up front. The only requirement for 30mA protection at the supply side of the garage sub-main is if it is run in such a manner the...

    RCBO needed or not???

Admin, I would put a 100mA TD RCD up front. Supply garage via MCB UNLESS cable runs require 30mA protection. Fit 30mA RCD as main switch in garage CU, or use RCBO's HTH Paul

Do you think they need changing?

DON'T Talk! I've just spent a few hours fixing my tumble dryer with bits from another scrapper, can't afford a new one at this exact time & running out of clothes as the weather is so bad can't dry them! House looks like the archetypal Chinese laundry! All I need now is a door latch and...

    Red & Black / Red&Yellow&Blue

Almost PBC! Red is a.c. control Black is a.c. power As per BS EN 60204-1. Oh and fair cop appropriate sleeving would be OK. It was getting late & I left out a bit, in that sleeved brown, black, grey & blue would not be compliant with 60204 as these colours are not recognised IIRC...

Surely gaffer tape was invented as such a repair solution?...

    shower cable

Therory, I am more than aware the BrB is not law, and I am a strong exponent of the fact. However, if you went against the BrB, and, the Manufacturers instructions you may find a problem in justifying your actions. Even though you are almost certainly correct in what you have put in your...

    shower cable

One thing though Specs, what if Manuf' instructions state min 10mm! 17th requires compliance with Manuf' insstructions! Even though all else is OK. Paul

    Red & Black / Red&Yellow&Blue

Nope NEVER would, as it then would be NON compliant. Think... Outside the box?... Paul

    Red & Black / Red&Yellow&Blue

YEP! Do it regularly and still it does not fall foul of any requirements of BS7671 or "Part P" In fact it is fully compliant... Think... Paul

    Red & Black / Red&Yellow&Blue

Look guys, I have loads of red & black singles in stock in a variety of csa's and use them regularly and will continue to do so. Also, when I do I don't "fall foul" of BS7671 or "Part P" in any way means shape or form. Paul

    Dodgy CU change

OK, Have spoken to GASsafe, sorry peeps, I was right... :coat :coat :coat DIY gas work is NOT illegal, HOWEVER, you must be able to prove competence if you do this. GASsafe is the accepted HSE measure of competence, so if you are not, you are on your own and must be able and willing to...
