But his IR readings are fine so I would say that the nail has made contact with the CPC whilst being hammered in, but somehow is now no longer in contact with it and is just bridging the two switch lines. :C

    exam puzzle

I'd go with that but I wouldn't call it crossed polarity as both wires are in effect the same conductor. They have just become bridged by the nail and as a result the switches are being bypassed.

    NIC Approved

I would say NOT. Just flicked through the phone book and a lot of firms have both DI and AC. Maybe wrong. Give NIC a ring and ask them would be your best bet.

    Calculator problems

    If you work it out with crbvcurbvubruvbruvb to 2 decimal places it works out at 109.9 exactly. XL = 2 x 3.14 x 50 x 0.35 = 109.9 Just a thought.

    DIFFICULT JOB !!

Seems like you've got a similar job to my brother's. I also had to run cables in the safe zone (diagonal in line with vaulted ceiling). At the end of the day a safe zone is only safe if the person drilling the wall knows where they are :C :C

    DIFFICULT JOB !!

I was lucky. He had used 200mm rafters so just moved them down into the middle and kingspan had to go over them. Is there something in the regs about distance from roof felt etc? I've seen regs about floorboards and ceilings but can't find anything about roof.

    DIFFICULT JOB !!

I did this on my brother's new build bungalow and BCO wasn't happy. He said they had to be 50mm down from felt and 50mm up from ceiling. X(X( X( I know they have to be 50mm up from ceiling and down from floorboards, but never seen anything in the regs about the roof.

fusing down when using 3 core and earth

Agreed. The isolator is there so you can isolate the fan for maintenance etc. without taking out the light. Lights can come in handy when it's dark :^O :^O :^O

Consumer Unit further than 3 metres from the metering position

If it's a new build, why couldn't they have put the meter nearer to the CU??
