    Crabtree Accessories

Anyone used the new ones? I've had boxes of sockets now that aren't the same as they used to be. Suffice to say that i think that they're not made in England anymore as it no longer says so on the back of the socket. Shame as i've not noticed them getting any cheaper??!

testing fcu with built in rcd

I only use crabtree sockets and they have twin earth terminals and they are connected. I assumed that they were the same as the sockets for it suites. Used to do lots of office blocks and used MK and they were the same.

Agreed, but why aren't they already? Can't think of a reason not

    Rubbish Fluorescent Fittings

Only ever fit thorn now. They have got thinner than what they were years ago but the quality is still fairly reasonable. Tamlite is another shocker and best avoided, you pretty much have to build the things!!

Why wouldn't the earths be connected internally?

    Rubbish Fluorescent Fittings

Fitted a customer supplied from B&Q flourescent once. Suffice to say i'd never do it again. Eterna i think was the make and probably the worst light i've ever fitted. It also blew up the day after i fitted it and set off the fire alarm for the building. A Sunday call out then was needed to...

I'd be interested in a link for those heaters please.

    New ring main

Smokes are better off on the lighting circuit as then they can't be disconnected.

    Toolstation

Toolstation are excellent on downlights and loads cheaper than wholesalers. They now do low energy gu10's that are the sylvania ones for 3.60 ish i think. They fit straight into fire rated downlighters.

    Downlights in older cielings

That's a worry. You don't now what Artex is?

    Cable Rods.

Had both sets and would recommend the super rods. They've lasted loads longer than the cheapo ones.

    Boiler connections

Worcester boilers need the live straight to them. From there you wire to the 10 way box.

They've lasted this long without an RCD!

Shower switch not pull cord type??

Can't beleive that you'd put a 10mm twin in a single deep pattress. Don't give them ajn option and they won't know!!

    Core drilling

I've never used it on hammer. Decent coresgo through in under 5 mins a course. I use Diamond ones and a Milwaukee core drill, both designed for the job. I find that using a normal mains sds drill takes ages. Saw a chippy using a 24V sds drill once. He was to lazy to go to the van!
