    PIR codes?

Have explained fully about the no earth situation and will probably recommend it rewired when i speak to cust later. Was debating between code 2 or 4, everything is class 2 including plastic surface mounted back boxes. reason i put code 4 is because as far as i'm aware this complies to early...

    Scrap copper prices

ring round a few local yards, ask them for the price for unstripped cable. Can vary so worth ringing a few. I dont strip my cable, most of its small domestic though. Worthwhile if you've got alot of larger csa cable. when you find the price, theres a sticky one one of the threads, would be...

I agree, you're working for free if you dont win the job. Its not always possible to knock of power to test. I have a quote sheet i go through. Zs test on a few sockets, test for continuity between passed socket earth and screws at light switch or metal light fitting. (check for lighting earth...

Failed D.E.I.P.I.R. (for a single dwelling)

Mr Slim, I would decline to pay this bill for the work, until you can sort out some sort of arrangement. There is no way you have actually got what has been agreed to do. That is not a PIR its a joke, you wouldnt pay for a pint of p*** when you'd ordered a pint? I would also suggest getting...

taking zs readings in exam conditions

Doesn't really make too much sense as you'll be leaving a light fitting unscrewed and live so slight contridiction there. It may take slightly longer, but if it needs doing to pass your exam then do it! If ever in doubt with anything like that in an exam or assesment always do the safe way...

    1. Upgrade to CCU to 17 Edition of the British Standard. 2. Investigate and amend the high Zs reading in one of the sockets in the living room(right hand corner). 3. Investigate and amend the high Zs reading in the socket on the landing. 4. Investigate and amend the high Zs reading in the...

    What do you drive

How can you throw things into neat little drawers quickly at the end of a day? Best thing about a van is being able to chuck stuff in

    What do you drive

i looked at vw's. quite overpriced. fords or vauxhalls best for value/reliability. then maybe the french makes. Strange with insurance. Got a quote for both vehicles last year at same time. 2ltr transit was cheaper than 1.3 combo

    What do you drive

I drive a swb transit. Used to have a vauxhall combo, as noz says get the van you want froom the start. I wasted money/time/effort switching vans, i found the combo too small. I like to carry around most things i need unexpectedly. I hate leaving a job to drive in traffic for an hour to get...

    Fault finding (my work)

bulders/plasters drive me mad when they do this. Had one couple weeks ago had core drilled through for a fan and left cable, obvious where its meant to be. came back and cable nowhere, even when i knocked out searching for it couldnt find it- was still there in the attic! ended up rewiring it...

installation testers [as in expensive meters!]

Whats the difference between a Fluke 1653B and 1654B? Ive got a 1652B, i really like it. Pretty much everything i need, only thing i miss sometimes is phase rotation. However I also have a spare metrel alphatek in the van which has phase rotation. Is nice to have a spare, slightly beat up...

    Dual Phase

cheers mate been to few different carehomes for same company. Can't remember what kind of stuff this one in question has, but some have got fair amount of load. maybe big wash rooms, 2-3 big washer then same again dryers, sometimes big 3 phase. Most of them have shower rooms every 3 or so...

    Dual Phase

Hi all, Was working in a carehome few weeks ago, the place is on a dual phase supply rather than 3 phase. Its a really big place, about 40 rooms or so. Ive only ever really seen 2 phases instead of 3 used in a slightly bigger than normal house, where is a 3 phase supply but only 2 phases are...
