    Lighting wiring

It would be very interesting for other forum members on here, if you could confirm that you have checked the Zs readings for the circuit are still within the characteristics for a C type breaker?  By my rough calculations swapping a 6amp 'B' to a 6amp 'C' reduces the max permissible circuit...

Heads up on Immersion heater fault?

If the tank is below the minimum temperature setting of the thermostat it will never "click to the open position".  As it thinks the water is too cold and needs to be heated up. It will only click open once the tank is up to temperature. Fault finding any switched item, be it a...

Are we out of date again? (Who's been feeding the cash-cow?)

Anyone else received an e-mail about the amendment train arriving at platform 1.  https://electrical.theiet.org/media/2332/amendment1_read-only_final.pdf  Now Christmas is over do certain regulatory bodies need to top-up their Christmas-club savings reserves, or is it the summer-holiday savings...

One hour to go and and we're OUT .........

On a similar vein to the over budget expenses for the HS2 project. What about dumb smart motorways? What will become of long distance travel by car on our main routes between major cities etc.? Or is it a clever deception to try and get more people off the road and onto the train? Doc H.

    Hive Active Heating Thermostat Installation

If that drawing is how your current system is actually wired then I cannot see how the current thermostat has ever worked?  Ignore the colours for the moment, if you try to follow a live path from the programmer, via thermostat to boiler, its just looping back round on itself doping nothing...

    Rcd not resetting.

Maybe the RCD will not operate at all now you have fiddle with it? How have you verified its operating time and current? This RCD needs testing with an approved RCD tester to verify it is operating within the correct time and current characteristics defined in BS7671 wiring regulations...

    Installing 1gang 2 way dimmer????

The colours mean nothing without knowing where the were on the original switch. You have a 1 in 6 chance of getting it right without knowing the original wiring, or metering it out between both switches. Doc H

can I run 17600w constantly on uk power supply ?

If the circuits have been designed correctly for the expected loads, the cables should have been selected in relation to the installation methods, so should be able to carry the power you want. But I am not convinced the average domestic consumer unit is intended to run at higher than average...

    EICR coding.....go easy

I would reword that a bit and say 'our duty is to ensure all work we are involved in will 'Fail-Safe'.  With all things electrical, (Installation, additions & alterations, fault finding or inspection & testing), its possible to forget the fundamental principal to protect people, property...
