I don't think there is a good reason, but I also have a tendency to isolate appliances (that don't have a clock) and I think it stems from being inherently miserable. Don't want to pay an extra £2 per year for appliances on stand-by mode.
@nicebutdim partly habit and also a slight distrust of the built in oven/hob controls after the control dial on the hob decided to literally start smoking randomly even though it was off at the dialWhy do your turn it off at the red switch? Don’t you trust the switch / knob on the appliance.
Like shower isolators I consider these “big red switches” to be for maintenance purposes only.
Don’t know if the quality of these isolators have dropped like most things in recent years but recently I have changed quite a few shower pull cords not because of slack burnt connections like it used to be in previous years but more that they have mechanically gave up, I now advise people not to switch them off after every shower unless of course there is a good reason to.

they definitely seem a lot less sturdy looking these days for sureDon’t know if the quality of these isolators have dropped like most things in recent years but recently I have changed quite a few shower pull cords not because of slack burnt connections like it used to be in previous years but more that they have mechanically gave up, I now advise people not to switch them off after every shower unless of course there is a good reason to.
I don't buy that argument with electronic goods which are designed to "rest" in standby. I believe the frequently repeated inrush current surge of initial power up will shorten their life, costing more in the long term.Don't want to pay an extra £2 per year for appliances on stand-by mode.
indeedCircular isolators from Click and Crabtree are all I trust now. Click double screw terminals are particularly good, but neither are much use when you're replacing an old isolator with no slack on the cables.
