Silly question of the day from the new boy :)

The installation existing is an interior light and an exterior light wired in parallel via two way switching with both switch's inside the building, but in different rooms. Little old lady walks in from outside the building at present and switch's the lights on via a pull cord, the interior light goes on and she can see in the room she is in, and the exterior light goes on and everyone outside can see the room is occupied (actually that the door she entered the room by is open - same thing essentially).

The brief was to PIR both lights so that the lights turn on as she walked up the path to the building - easy peasy, I bought two Steinel sensors with the intention of leaving the lights switched on permanently but controlled via a PIR outside and one inside.

When I got to site the client changed the brief to include the PIR and a manual override switch to have the lights on via a switch or via the PIR's. My circuit head is broken and I cannot think it through correctly so that both conditions are satisfied, 1/ That the lights come on via the PIR if someone approaches the room from outside and that 2/ The lights go on if a switch is turned on

Doh!

Any ideas gratefully received - I am going to go back tomorrow and install what ever seems the best route to satisfy both scenarios, I know it can be done, I have even done it myself about three years ago, but I cannot work it out today........................... :_|

Hi

Switch will just go across live feed and switch wire from PIRs

You could do this with a suitable rated switch ( like bell push) just cant think of the name. ?:| (sure someone will know the exact name)

Most PIR's if switched on then off again go into override

Grief....................an embarrassed rafkid say's thanks :Blushing

I wonder how it is possible to get so muddled over something so simple in practice?

Not doing it every day I guess?

Cheers to all respondees, I appreciate it. :Applaud

Are you thinking of a retractive type switch?

Don't think it would work unless you held it on, maybe you are thinkin of a fan timer trigger switch set up type thing perhaps?

I think it should be a push to make then must return to open after you release it or they will be permanently on 'overide' and only off when you press it.I still for the life of me can't think of it's name:C
nope. push to break. you want the supply permantly on, and to temporary break to turn it to 'on' mode, then press again to turn supply off, and return to PIR

I have done this before but 16 years ago, it is similar when you power up a PIR controlled fitting for the first time the light will switch on

Are yes I see what you mean, that would be NC retractive switch then as Andy said Normally closed Push to open (breaks circuit) resets back to power up PIR.

only problem i can see with this though, to turn back to auto, (or is it to permanent?) they usually require 10 seconds of 'off' time. wouldnt like to have to stand there holding button for 10 seconds....
