does anyone remember the circuit lengths for the lighting and ring circuit on the december 2009 exam just gone?? Been going over my calcs in my head but cant remember for the life of me the circuit lengths.. help much appreciated..

18m for the ring.

Do you mean the lighting circuit that you had to explain how to do insulation resistance on?

yeah thats the one, im so glad to hear the ring was 18 meters, cus i remember getting 0.13 for ring loops (7.41/1000) x 18 = 0.13ohms sweet!! so r1+r2 was 0.13 + 0.13/4 = 0.065 right??

so how long was the radial?? was it 35m??

oh and it was 2.5mm and not 1.5, just they gave values for both didnt they, was this a red herring to make ya think??

cheers guys im really glad to clear that up... can rest a lil bit easy now... i did bang

on about isolation when i suppose the circuit would not have been energised yet,

hope they dont mark me down for that!

and I put 0.9 ohms for zs, i rounded down (7.41+ 7.41/1000) x 35 =0.918, should i have put 0.92 to lean on the side of safety??

I'm pretty sure the answer was 0.24Ohms because the 0.98/4 =0.24.

If it's the question your on about was 23?.

There was 3 pretty straight forward questions in the last 6 which made life a bit easier for me anyhow.

The installation of the SWA.

The test procedure one .

The earth fault path on the TN-S drawing with labels.

We had about 50 or so guys sitting this one and most looked reasonably happy at the end, so my guess it wasn't too bad an exam.

Guess we'll see in about 8 weeks

how you looking on the practical part?

I got to go back and do it i missed the the earth on the 3ph plug like an NUMBNUTSheadbang

Hi mate I was talking about the 35 m lighting radial, you only do the divide by 4 bit when its a ring circuit as far as im aware.

was the armour question in the big six then??? I remember the question...."what five things do you inspect" was it worth 15 points??? i put bend radius, gland tightness, fly leads, check for damage and identification of conductors... i cant see that being worth 15 points..

Everyone doing well means that the pass mark will be more difficult to reach, because the scum bags only wanna pass about 45% dont they!!

every one doing well means the pass mark will go up!! I did think the paper was reasonably straight forward, but i rushed it and probably made silly mistakes!

I think its cruel making us all wait till february for the results! the practical shouldnt be a problem, well our tutor is not making a big deal of it anyway..

Our Tutor said about 100 marks should be enough.

I totaled mine up on the friday when we went back over the questions and answers and i'd say i got betwen 98-110 marks so hopefully thats good enough.
