RCD also not required if cable is surface mountedYes you can as andy has said you would need a fuse to protect the tails, and under the 17th edition they would require mechanical protection or RCD protection unless buried more than 50mm into the fabric of the building.

Isn't that what Andy said in post 2 (he said 3 metres, but essentially the same)? :coati thought the max lenth was 4 meters unless you use a sub main?
