should be glanded into the enclosure properly

next best thing is the gland with in free air (inside the enclosure) with a piranha nut to get the earth from it

Strip back and terminate in suitable enclosure internal to this wall, then, bring a cpc through with the lives in suitable protection into this isolator.

That is a really bad job, nothing unusual or new though, why do people think that this is OK.

Oh and remember if you use a polymer enclosure to allow for compressive creep, so an "earthing nut" is probably the best solution if you put a polymer enclosure on the interior.

Can you remove the socket and put an adaptable box in it's place, terminate the SWA nicely in that and re-mount the socket next to it, using singles from the adaptable box into the socket?

Of course that will only work if you have enough of the SWA accessable to terminate it properly.

Nobody shoot me as I don't know whether this is right or not. It's more an enquiry than a suggestion. Couldn't you use a earth strap round the armour? I have seen it done by someone else with a armour feeding a plastic cu. Looked at it and thought Hummm, not sure if I have an issue with that? Lol

Yes sidey, meant a standard clamp. Like I said, it flagged a warning when I saw it and I have never done it. Gland everytime for me. At least we all know now ;)

Batty,

You could always terminate it into an adaptable box & extend it through flexy conduit or summat to get the length as long as the connectors were in the box say.

Hey Matty,

can I have a look at your other end pretty please?

And before rumours start i'm not that way inclined, I just want to ensure you have looked at the other end of the swa to see what the situation is with regards to earthing the armour at the supply end.

You can always use the type of termination used on "Lucy`s" - I don`t know the correct name. Basically, a knurled brass tube, the armour goes over the tube, and is secured with a jubilee type clip.......

Like one of these things, without the mounting bracket....

that I've been meaning to get around to asking the name of...

So where does that bit of green / yellow that dissapears behind the switch go to then? Is it just put there to fool anybody having a casual look that there is a CPC connected, and in fact it goes nowhere.

Here's what I would try, if there's any slack in the cable to allow you to do it.

Withdraw the cable. enlarge the hole in the wall so the hole is large enough to take a SWA gland. Fit said gland to the cable and fix it through the hole in the plastic box. Use the brass banjo, a nut and bolt and ring terminal to make your connection to the CPC.

Yes I know it's not ideal clamping a SWA gland to a plastic box, but infinitely better than no CPC at all.
