Emergency services at the scene of the incident in Letterston Fisghguard Wales

A 54-year-old man has died after a trench collapsed at a new housing development in Pembrokeshire

.

Dyfed-Powys Police said despite a delicate operation to free him the local man died at the scene at Letterston, near Fishguard.

A joint investigation has been launched, and police will work with the Health and Safety Executive.

It is understood foundations were being dug when the collapse happened at 10:10 BST on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson said the man's next of kin, and the coroner for Pembrokeshire, have been informed.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire crews from Haverfordwest and Fishguard.

Specialists from the fire service's urban search and rescue team from Earlswood near Briton Ferry also went to the site off Station Road, along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service.

A man in the earthmoving industry told me how oil

changes were carried out on site.

1) Excavate trench with earthmoving machine.

2) Drive earthmover over trench.

3) Send operative into trench.

4) Drop oil into trench.

5) Replace plug, change filter.

6) Drop filter into trench.

7) Drive earthmover off trench.

8) Backfill trench.

Simples!!!!!!!

You forgot 1 major point, getting the operative out of the trench?? Surely they don't backfill with him in it!

It seems it's a week for disasters everywhere! Ppl need to stop taking dangerous risks!

This is really very sad news if *** SPAM REMOVED *** would have been there then the lady would have been saved on time. Apart from this, *** SPAM REMOVED *** would also have helped a lot in this case.

This does not alter the fact that with

the presence of safety services and a

(supposedly) raised safety awareness

some folk still take this work on with

no regard to the hazards. I can see a

custodial sentence being handed down

somewhere.

Call a job off earlier this week as company wanted me to operate a static boom with noone on the ground...no job is worth my life. You can get another job but you only get one life.

And it might help if you read ALL the posts related to this. Who mentioned a lady? If you meant "laddie" then I suggest you learn proper English.
