Any iTunes experts on here?

My old laptop died, I now have acquired a new to me one
I have installed itunes
I have resurrected my old iPod classic 160Gb which has all my stuff on it
Question is how do I get this onto my new laptop ( not apple) so I can then synch/transfer it to my iPad for a trip

Laptop can see iPad and iPod , I used to,be able to drag and drop and I think I may not be able to due to it all being on iPod and NOT in iTunes on lappy, any clues please?

In the iTunes app on your PC, click the iPod touch button near the top left of the iTunes window. Select the type of content you want to sync (for example, Movies or Books) in the sidebar on the left.
