Hi guys, just had to go Vat registered so I need to taking the book keeping seriously instead of piles of receipts and papers!

What software are you using to help you? Also has anyone been trying quick books, it's completely free and online which looks pretty tidy?

Cheers

TAS basics - free, company has been bought by SAGE, does all I need plus VAT - it wont send your return to HMRC but that takes five mins on line.

As a point, why do many people think VAT is difficult, time consuming or masses of paperwork.

No paperwork, your free software will give you the figures, no problem.

We use Sage. Mainly because our accountants want us to and it actually saves money by us inputting the data.

The other big advantage is you can keep an eye on how things are looking and make sure the money is there for VAT and tax.

Yeah they both look good, how do you find vat affects your domestic pricing and competitiveness?

No probs here, I am thinking that if you are VAT registered peolpe have a differring view of your Company.

That said we do a lot of new build, refurbs where builder has negotiated a low VAT rate (Dont ask how that works, but it is availble via the planners!!!) and shop fitting.

PV is only 5% and commercial, although 20% - they expect VAT reg

We also get plenty of private work as well.

How do you like on the mobile app? I can't see a way?

With the private work are you lowering your date rate to account for vat added to labour?
