add extra 12v socket in a car

Hi there,

I have heard about the connectors that you can use without breaking the actual wire.

What are they called and where to get them?

what do you think those ' posi tap ' type connectors would be good enough ?

I always used to use these when tinkering with cars, always did the job.

wrap and solder,on modern cars the wires can be quite thin and those Scotchlocks don't always make proper contact,if the wire is thin then if you do use them use the red ones,they are for a smaller wire size.

As Said above......they are called Scotchloks

they also do a version which has a male spade connection on it so you can plug the leads straight on to them

I would like to soldier but don't have electricity that fare in a parking. Maybe time to buy a portable gas one? (no idea which one)

also any ideas what shops maplin, euro car parts ? sells 'Scotchloks' ?

crimp is better but you need some proper ratchet crimpers and you could heat shrink the joint with your new soldering iron?

connector blocks no good for this sort of thing, I rekon too big unless you get some 5a ones, even then may not make the best connection.

you could also possibly try wago's?
