It's ok Kme, none taken.

Like I said, I'm not a novice having been involved in electrical maintenance/control circuits for many years, but it was the 15th ed regs I last done (original red book?) so things have changed, just using this excellent forum to gain more knowledge, I have no intention whatsoever of trying to do full domestic work, just whats needed for my renewable business.

Given your background and training I would still advise thinking of getting DI status, in your line of work it can save you one hell of a load of hassle.

I am getting confused here.....

1/ You are originally trained and qualified to earlier regs (15th) & formally worked in industrial type jobs. (nice one well done ) :D :Applaud

2/ You have now set up your own business doing solar PV installtions.. :D :Applaud

3/ You have been assessed as competent to do your line of work with a relevant contractor body. :D :Applaud

4/ Your enrollment includes competence to add a small additional cu for the sole purpose of connecting your PV equipment

5/ These new solar PV competence's Must be in relation to 17th edition..

(as they didn't exist in 15th edition)

6/ So...

Why are you asking basic questions about something you have theoretically been deemed competent to do?

(is this actually saying you are NOT competent?)

7/ Why do you imply it is safe & legal for you to pull the DNO's cut out fuse?

Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh..

But IMHO its a relatively basic question.

Yeah point taken S.L., the reason I posted the original query was 'cause I was intending to use 16mm tails+e cause I'm only fitting a 2 way 40A rcd protected cu, but while attending a PV seminar the other week I was talking to a nic reg guy who told me I had to use 25mm tails regardless and he recommended pulling the dno fuse as it was too much hassle to get them involved.I thought this was over the top as the pv system is only 3.8kw. so just posted a query to check with you guys.

On the 'pulling of the fuse', my collegue phoned western power today and they are going to install a 2 pole isolator-

JJ,

It seems you are in South/Mid Wales as your DNO is WPD, they are red hot on isolators etc. the guys are really good to be fair in my experience.

The cost was <

Gonna see how the business goes this year and if it takes off may consider it next year, Thanks.

Yes, 16mm tails out of henley, good for way over the load you will be connecting and a 10mm earth. Splitting supplies can be tricky so plan out what is going where before you get them big cutters out!

Dunx
