Hi all, can you shed some light?

I've got to put some lights in a shop with the problem being that the ceiling is very high and the new owner doesn't want to shell out on access platform so i can't replace the existing fluorescent.

Thinking about putting some kind of luminaires on the wall and wondered if anyone had any ideas bearing in mind it is to illuminate the serving hatch area of a post office(emphasis on price).

i would not bother, it will be like a cave .

tell him to do the job correctly and he wont need to bodge it.

lower the ceiling and fit the correct lighting for the size of room and make it maintainable.

never has money come into doing a job right. :)

I'm beginning to think so too. Asked if he was putting in a suspended ceiling but no. The more i think about it the more i agree it will be crap... and my reputation on the line then.

Cheers jl

The access platform refusal is bad enough. He/she doesn't care about your safety. You have a fall - YOU are the one that the HSE will come down hard on - And that's on top of your loss of earnings and your reputation. :(

You could try contacting your local friendly builder and ask if you could borrow their platform (maybe for a small fee added to your bill).

Otherwise, I've found that the flat round bathroom lights similar to these http://www.lighting-direct.co.uk/1-x-60w-large-wall-ceiling-chrome-p-5113.html , give out a good amount of light when fitted on a wall.

Or as it's panto season, one of these for behind the counter and one for the customer in front: http://www.qvsdirect.com/1W-Rechargable-LED-Headlight-pr-20977.html

the ladybird books are great - aren't they? :D
