Hi ive just bought an aeg 65300k halgen touch hob to replace my damaged hob. I bought it privately as a brand new ex display model thats been in storage for some time following shop closure. The problem is this... Its now been fitted but there doesnt appear to be any sign of life in it- wont turn on and no lights etc. The bottom right corner where the buttons are located seems mildly warm so theres obviously power to it. So am i just missing something such as a child safety lock or is it likely to be a fault with the unit? If so how would i go about testing it to id the fault and is anyone aware of any common or likely issues ? Thanks paul.

It's not one of these hobs that has to have a pan on the surface before it heats is it?

Welcome to the forum, can we just ask a few more questions here to help other answer.

Do you have any instructions, user manuals, installation manuals etc?

Was this an e-bay purchase or do you have a physical address where you purchased it from?

Is your model listed anywhere on the AEG website? AEG | Products | Cooking | Hobs

Have you tried AEG support Contact AEG

Doc H.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. It does have instructions although theres nothing in that would shed any light on the problem. The unit has got a child lock facility but this should work indepedently of the on off switch. I cant set timers or anythingblike thatvas the unit wont actually switch on.

Luckily i know the sellers address but as yet ive had no reply to an email sent to him. Out of interest would storage affect the internals of the hob ie through exposure to cold and damp?

Does it have a child lock button above the on switch, if so keep your finger pressed on it for 3 to 5 seconds then you should be able power up, sorry can't be of any more help.

All hobs i have fitted show some life when you first switch them on. I think you may have brought a faulty one and thats why you can't contact seller.

as above normally some life when first powered up. Daft question but have you checked there's voltage at the terminals, maybe not got one of the cores in right.

Again thanks everyone for all the help and advice.

I've had another good look at the hob tonight; everything is as it should be into the mains supply...

However, I've looked at the actual wiring box on the hob itself where the mains cable comes in;

There are 6 terminals altogether. The first 5 are marked 1 to 5 and the sixth is marked as earth.

The wiring diagram shows that live should be split to terminals 1 and 2, with negative running to terminal 4.

However the live cabe is only running to terminal 2 and is not split as it shows on the diagram. Could this be the problem, i'm wondering if its a deliberate safety thing seeing as its ex display.

In any case, i'm thinking of bridging the live from terminal 2 to terminal 1 as I'm guessing it should be?
