Just spent hard earned cash on a local booklet that dropped through my door, simply because of the credible large firms with adds, distributed to 7,500 homes locally

Nope don't think your being cynical. I too advertise in a small local booklet and get reasonable results from it. But I have had 2 or 3 phone calls along the lines you've had. Claims to be Emergency services booklets seem flavour of the month at moment. Your right to 'reject' them

i had one of these, i said the book im in that they got my number from also goes to the homes of the people they were sending to, so no need to duplicate!

One way to find out if they really are an official. Just ask them for their registration number & check them out.

Trouble with that some are registered but it is still a scam as the leaflets or pamplets will never be in your area even if they are printed. I will never buy something over the phone that way I won't be conned.

A lot of them release thier number now but they are all scams I believe. I never respond to cold calls, even says so on my front door, and still the buggers knock on it!!

The emergency services magazine publishers are not actually a "scam" , they do exist. Very pushy. I was talked into the West Midlands Police one last year ( Thats where my Avatar comes from , they presented my add like that) I went for it because work had gone quiet when they phoned but wont do it again, I now get the Fire Service phoning but I wont go for it again.

As said in previous threads, local free papers, church and community leaflets and local paper . I'm in two areas of Yellow Pages this year , lets see if they create any enquirys , none yet.
