Hi

Hopefully someone will be able to clarify something for me...

Do you need to do an am2 test to become an approved spark or can someone with an nvq 3 be an approved spark ? also , can you also confirm as I believe the case to be that you must pass 2391 test and inspect to be approved no matter what?

Thanks

2391 is required for Approved Electrician grading if that's what the question was asking. NVQ is required for any grading. AM2 forms part of the NVQ, at least for Apprentices.

Don't think they have to do AM2 anymore. Approved electrician would be a nvq3 or equivalent for the older members + 2391.

The JIB do ask for AM2, it is possible to obtain grading without it but "other relevant supporting evidence" is required. The NVQ is now a requirement for grading as an electrician, 2391 is required for Approved Electrician status.
