Biggest problem is telephone 'engineers' & Sky installers both who clip or staple their cables round every door frame they can find. This is outside of BS7671 and a metal staple isnt going to do much when the architrave is on fire.

What about the plastic plug your using to hold the metal clip to the wall ?

BT are the only people i have ever seen use them.

About 6 years ago we did a refurb where the whole fire alarm installation was wired  surface in red FP  fixed with red pvc cable clips. I was surprised these clips were ever made. The job must have been a gooden though as the whole building had one detector zone and one sounder circuit, but did have the Niceic installation cert next to it   :|   .

You have to understand the reasons for the reg, to, understand why the plastic wall plug is fine.

Ask yourselves why these metal supports are needed, and come back with some suggestions.

Time to buy shares in Buckle Clip Ltd  methinks.

I guess SWAs  will have to go back to those aluminium cleats then.
Does aluminium count as fire resistant?  It has a melting point of ~660 degrees C, which is lower than that of the copper cables it is meant to support.

and???????????

by the time the supports melt it will be too hot for anyone to enter the building anyway, and anyone still inside will be burnt to a crisp anyway.

your point is?
Fire-fighters come in waving big skooshy hose-like things that spray a special liquid coolant. They wear BA and heat-resisting suits and look for charred occupants.  The fire fighters are those this regulation is intended to save.  However, given that half of them also moonlight as "no-paper trail" sparks, I have mixed views.

If the authorities really wanted to save lives, they should legislate for compulsory sprinklers in all new builds & refurbs.  Then trunking and plastic clips would be fine.  :)

About a year and a half ago we refurbished a house and added a loft conversion. Hertfordshire council made the owners  fit a sprinkler system on the staircase in addition to smoke alarms. I never saw the finished job, A pressure vessel was to be fitted in the old outside lav and i had to run a 13A FCU to  it. A 32mm ish barrel was run from here up the stairwell . Not done any other domestic jobs  for any other LABC where this was insisted.
