on a job at the min,

rewireble fuse, but the main switch in the board is an 30 ma rcd, is this just normal run of the mill rcd, may have imagined it but is there a old type of rcd thats no longer used?

bit a a PITA job any way,

brining the sockets into kitchen units, 30 A, ring main is stranded cable and big, the conductors only just fit into the terminals, prob 4mm, was hopeing to use push fits but mine only take upto 2.5mm, :_|

will have to see if i can get some wago tomorrow, as they do 2.5 to 4mm

or buy some more yellow crimps and bring them through in 6 mm.

The old stranded cable is probably 7/029 which is about 3mm CSA. But it will look a lot bigger than 2.5 due to being multi stranded. I doubt it's as big as 4mm.

I've personally never seen a fuse box that has an RCD as it's incomer, but then uses rewirable fuses, seems a strange combination.

If it's really a current operated RCD you should be okay. You are probably thinking of the old voltage operated earth leakage trips which are about as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

Rewireable !!!!.......... its not a voltage operated one is it ? The only other RCD is the delay type , used to discriminate on split load boards.

Never seen one with rewirables TBH .

If it is an old ELCB voltage op. it has to go .

thanks guys,

cant get blue crimps on the conductors, if it is 3mm then does that rule out yellow crimps?

wish i had took some pics.

it has a test button and after reading doc p it may be a voltage operated, as there is and earth and its tncs. will have a better look tommorrow. i only need 1 rcd protected socket so i have an rcd spur was hopeing not to use it they are pricey

IIRC correctly, the blue crimps are for cable from 1.1 to 2.6mm and the yellow ones are for cable from 2.5 to 6.5mm. So the yellow crimps should be okay.

Mind they are on the limit for 2.5mm, so I would do a couple of test crimps on 2.5 and pull test them to make sure your crimpers are closing down properly.

They all have test buttons...

Its the two earth wire connections that are the give away. ;)

Yes this is a Wylex RCD, if it was in focus it would provide more info

it says current operated earth leakage breaker.

great my work camra phone;)

Closer look with a squint and it says on bottom,

Current Operated Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker thats old speak for RCD as aposed to Voltage Operated ELCB

Now this has got me thinking, are you saying this RCD main switch is in a standard range fuse box. I am sure I changed one once but there again I could be dreaming.

yes it is the main switch in the fuse board.

this pic is prob about 300 words;)
Pushing it a bit for 300 words with that focus Tom1, I would say you are lucky to get away with calling it 175 words!

Doc H.

will settle for 200

Could we have a pic of the whole fuse board showing the rewirable fuses?

That looks to me like the RCD fitted into the old style Wylex boards that took the NB series of MCB's (lethal things due to unshrouded terminals) I would like to see the layout of the whole board with rewirable fuses.
