Wasn’t 2004 section 601? I seem to remember that it was more a mfrs recommendation, and only in a later edition that the ‘apply mfrs instructions’ was made more significant.

good point, it would have been 601...

but i cant find my 2004 regs anywhere so cant check myself

Issue :2001 Blue.     Amendment 1 :2002,   Amendment 2 : 2004,    Reprint with Amendments 1 & 2 : Brown.  2004.

There has never been a regulation saying showers need RCD protection.  Brown book only says good workmanship & proper materials  133-01-01.  It was in the 17th ed (Red) 2008 that manufactures instructions was added. 134.1.1.  Then later the whole Buried cables and bathroom circuits malarkey.

Forgot to say you can check the editions dates & colours etc toward the front of the current regs.  (Red-1991,  Green-1994,  Yellow-1997,   Blue-2001,   Brown-2004,  Red-2008)  etc..

So had a browse brown book 2004 and reg 601-09-02 states a fixed electrical accessory fixed in zone 1 requires a rcd 30mA.

thanks. though it did

testing an insallation that had some modifications in 2007/8, just wanting to check if it actually complied at the time or not. looks like its not. still unsatisfactory anyway

Just realised you're asking about the 16th edition  Brown , which was  right in front of me .    Confirm what Sharpie says  in 601-09-02    ...asking for RCD protection .
