Ford? I was talking about the Jag X type which shares the same drivetrain as the mondeo. Yes I known its about badge snobbery and an Octavia is basically the same as an A4 or passat. I just remember the old Skodas!

the c-max, i hadn't noticed it was a 1.6

skoda's aren't really the bargain they used to be anyway, 9 years ago the octavia was a golf but with a more powerful engine and higher spec for less money, now the spec is the same, the engines the same and its the same money.

and its not just the same drive train, it is a mondeo.
In the words of mr clarkson when he road tested it "we share 98% of our DNA with a halibut - but its that 2% that makes the difference"

It isn't a Mondeo, I know it is the same platform as the Mondeo and TBH I had considered a high spec Mondeo they are good cars. Having driven this one it is superior ride comfort and handling to the Mondeo and cost me the same as an equivalent Mondeo. On a plus point when something goes wrong its relatively cheap as opposed to VAG/BMW/Merc. When you consider this car cost

As far as engines go its confusing - Audi/VW/Skoda/Seat share engines, Ford uses some VAG engines, Jag use ford engines, Landrover use Ford engines. Ford use peugeot engines eg Focus 1.6Tdci....

very true, bloody nightmare.

parts aren't dear on vag cars relative to others, they are all bloody expensive.

Just been looking at these old posts. I never bought the mondeo. Didn't like it and it had a few problems. I bought a Rover 45 1.6 IXS petrol which was OK but 30 mpg?

I do a lot of mileage now with the new job so have just gone full circle and got a C Max again! This time I got a newer shape 07 model with 1.6 tdci engine but this time slightly lower powered 90 bhp model which seems to go as well as the old one. Drove it from Wednesbury to Northampton and back up to Blackpool (260 miles) and it did an astonishing 60.5 mpg.

Should have stuck with the old one and saved myself

Well specs, I was being green. I thought better to discuss my new car on a previous thread... If I started a new thread every time I bought a car .... well you get the picture. Anyway the thread is entitled 'anyone into cars' and I am.... :)

Wozz, I went to prodrive in coventry. My son bought me a 'supercar experience' which was a choice of Lambo, ferrari, aston, atom... I chose a Porsche 996 GT3 and added CDW insurance (

Sounds really good for the money rev.

Palmer sounds expensive but you get alot the food alone you would pay alot for in a restaurant! you get to drive all of the cars as hard as you can the only one that had proper traction control was the porsche which would save you a bit, the rest didnt as they were stripped out track cars. it was unbelievable how hard the instructors pushed you.

there were quite a few offs and some had to be avoided at shot notice which was fun. there was no extra insureance or anything and you couldnt get billed for any damage just finish your session early, the day is exhausting though 7:30-5 of being scared ****less wears you out!
