Hi,

I just bought 2 new apple chargers for my laptop. They work perfectly fine in the office at work, yet when I come home, they do not. I've tried them in every plug in the house, and they still do not work. Lamps, TVs, everything else works fine in the sockets, yet my apple chargers do not. Apple chargers have worked in the past yet now they dont. I also tried them in the sockets that the TV works from and still nothing. I just wondered if anybody could give me a reason why this would be the case, thankyou.

Are they genuine chargers?

£65 is the price from apple.

Not sure if they are any different to a normal charger internally but I may be wrong?

Are you using the same laptop at home and work?

Someone more Mac than me will be along soon no doubt to correct me.

:)

An iPad requires a higher current draw to charge, many of the BS 1363 socket mounted USB outlets can only deliver 1A, the are current limited to that.

An iPad requires 2.1A available to charge.

Below this current availability it will not register that it is charging, but will slowly.

That's the gist of it anyway.

Now to the OP.

Do these power supplies have a 13A "plug" on them?

If they do.

Do they have a "plastic" earth pin?

Do any of the other devices that work have a "plastic" earth pin.

Yes they are genuine Apple chargers for 65 pounds , thanks anyway though!

They are MacBook chargers that won't work, the usb chargers work fine for my phone and iPad but my MacBook ones won't even turn on! The ligh that comes on at the end of the charger that I plug into my laptop won't light up, this is why I took it that the current maybe isn't strong enough to power this charger? Surely not though!

No my description of the current limiting applies only to the usb section of the outlets, not the 13A 3 pin socket outlet.

What is the history of the wiring in your home?

I don't know if im honest, sorry

I don't know anything about wiring. I just thought somebody might be able to suggest why Apple Chargers wouldn't work. The house was built in 2010 and can power TVS and all sorts! IVe never heard of a house not able to charge a laptop tho

The charger isn't broken because they work fine in the office

Aha! That explains a lot, ta.

Must check what first wife has had fitted in the Horsebox!

With the showing season approaching I can see a gnashing of teeth on the horizon, and i will, doubtless be on the receiving end...not in a good way

This ones a bit of a puzzler???

I checked my mac book charger and it has an earth pin so there maybe is an issue with earthing? perhaps the OP is out in the sticks with an earth rod and the macbook charger acts like a socket tester, but this is a little far fetched.... What about reverse polarity???

I've googled a bit but found nothing useful.

:(

Yeah I got the right charger for my 13 inch MacBook thanks for asking though, the light on the charger won't even turn on ! I have plugged an extender into a socket and in that extender I have my MacBook charger and a phone charger , the MacBook chargijg isn't turning on and the phone charger works fine !

I don't know anything about earthing or polarity I'm sorry! Do you know any way of getting my charger to work? If it works in my office in the city but not at my home, that suggests a problem with the power not the actual charger, would you agree ? Thanks

In response to blue duck

How would reverse polarity effect it ?

And yeah there is an earth as every other appliance works
