armed box sinkers

Just got a new box sinker, but the guide appears to bit loose.is this right or should it be tight.many thanks

Neither my single or double Armeg sinker are tight as in if you grab the SDS end you can "wobble" the square cutting piece. Do seem to come loose in use. I try and periodically tighten mine up. 30mm spanner for the big nut and 17mm for the flats on the SDS side. Or two adjustables...........

Hmmm well mine was really tight at first but after being used for a bit i noticed it became loose and after a while it was pretty much as loose as it could get so I looked into getting it fixed but apparently they can't be

So I went out and got a new one, much much tighter

Apparently they all get loose after three kids

The rust will stiffen it up. What rust you say, the rust that forms after you throw the thing to the back of the shed after realising its only good for Thermalite block and not worth the effort.

I don't have one, nor have I used one, as I don't fit that many flush boxes.

I thought that they were OK for thermalite, breeze & concrete block, along with soft brick, just not the hard engineering brick.

Any others got one fancy doing a review?

Perhaps a poll on what they find them suitable for?

I don't feel competent to comment on them as I've never even handled one IIRC!

It would be interesting for the rest of us.

ive got one - rarely ever use it.

its oK on thermalite / breeze, but thats about it

First time I used the Armeg kit I thought "Sh!t! What have I bought!". Just my luck that the first box position (low down)was in hard, white engineering brick and the circular cutter was basically bouncing off the wall! It got easier after that (once through the bullet proof render). In old breeze / clinker blocks it literally takes a couple of minutes each one and is dead square and smooth - too smooth? The circular cutter makes quite a bit of dust and my kit came with a plastic "shroud" meant to contain the dust - it doesn't - I then cracked the shroud within the first day (didn't pass the drop test) so had to knock up some stainless reinforcing plates either side of the bronze bush as a new one from Armeg was I think 30 odd quid. Plan is next to add a dust extraction port to my modified shroud. As I haven't done it (the mod) yet, at the moment I drill a series of holes and use the square box cutter to take the lot out. IMO if you have a job that suits the Armeg - lots of new boxes, thermalite / breeze walls you'll love it. For one or two boxes not worth it.

I was given one to use at a job, I lasted five minutes before throwing it down and using SDS with chisel, much quicker!!!

Interesting about the tri-cutter.......I bought mine from Electricfix last year. Must admit I didn't shop around as I wanted it there and then. Can only hope the tri-cutter is better than the two-cutter job in my photo. I know you can get spares from Armeg but they cost and Arm and a leg....... :coat
