Hello this is my first post on here (apart from the obligatory introduction post of course!)

I have a device from the USA which is designed to fit in an American single gang back-box but I need it to go in a retrofit here in the UK so the already installed backbox is obviously a standard UK one.

Before I go down the route of either re-chasing/installing a US backbox, or getting something made especially (not cheap!!), is there anything out there such as an adapter plater which I could use to put the two together?

I have tried numerous avenues without success (apart from the bespoke option), so any help much appreciated!

I'm afraid there's nothing on the UK market to my knowledge, that can be adapted to suit an American accessory. You'll have to find an American back box. They are available in the UK, but from specialist installers that use American style systems for home automation and the like!!

What does a US back box look like?
They're also known as a "J-Box", dims are 50mm wide x 94mm high

Yeah that was what I was worried about TBH, I've no problem in getting hold of the US back box as I am one of the specialist installers :) but was hoping to not have to go down that route and use an adapter or something similar instead of ripping the old box out. If only life was easy eh.........

that was what I was getting at ,#there is nothing that cant be done,

just people that cant be bothered doing it.
You have obviously never seen US style back boxes and the size of US accessories, otherwise you wouldn't have come out with that sort of statement!! I'd like to see ''anyone'' try and adapt a UK back box to fit a US accessory. The closest UK back box, would be a double outlet box mounted vertically, and a 47mm deep one at that!! Sometimes the effort is just not worth it!! I'm sure the OP knew this when he posted the question, as he would have known the overall dimensions of the two systems, don't even come close to matching!!!

Here's a link, ...The single and double US style (''J box'') back boxes are shown at the lower end of the page .....These are posh ones, but the standard knockout type ones are the same size, maybe slightly shallower than the 75mm stated ....but not that much!! I think the standard depth is 2 1/4''
