Since the other threads keep getting hijacked I thought I would start this so that all the nostalgia is kept under control in one place. So, here goes...

When did they get rid of those signs at the start of the Motorway that said 'No scooters, invalid carriages etc'?

What were the use of AA or RAC phone boxes???

When did proper apprenticeships cease?

What ever happened to real Black Enamel conduit?

What do I do with all the points I got from Jimmy Saville on his sunday afternoon radio prog [in brackets]?

What were the use of AA or RAC phone boxes???Amazingly they did have a direct line, but mainly used as toilets

When did proper apprenticeships cease? That would be at the early 1980's Thatcher hated any low class person having a skill

What ever happened to real Black Enamel conduit?I was thinking of this, this very day, when I told a person I was with today about it he was adamant that it was never produced.

What do I do with all the points I got from Jimmy Saville on his sunday afternoon radio prog [in brackets]?
Your on your own there mate

never thought about black enamel, it was nice. My guess is that the finish on galv has improved to the point that it is acceptable for offices and hospitals etc, or has plastic replaced the need for it?

AA/RAC boxes??????

Jimmy Saville? way before my time, I remember Jim'll fix it but thats all....

ABBA - split in 1983 due to problems in the relationships between the 2 couples - I think.

Apprenticeships.. gradually dispppeared, I dont think you can blame maggie for that tho... Labours policy of pushing up the wages of unskillked workers to the point that the differential to trad qualified has made being a tradesman less desirable. Also costs money to train apprentices and theres no guarantee you get a return on the investment.

There's still an RAC box up here I pass occasionally.

I'm sure I still have an RAC key somewhere. I must stop for a look out of curiosity.

Didn't the motorway sign also mention tractors and milk floats?

Off topic when did brass plumbing fittings stop being made of brass? they seem to be made of steel now and brass plated?

I met the late Jimmy Saville, at his house he used to own in Glen Coe. We were setting out to walk the Annoch Eagach ridge and started out up his driveway instead of the correct path. Very polite nice man I thought.

I started my apprenticeship in 1979 Less than 10 years later, the apprenticeship scheme that trained me was closed down.

What happened to Black Japanned screws (good riddance IMO )

I had a boyhood crush on the girl from the test card but her clown stripy toy thingy scared the bloody bejazuz outta me.

Then the TV POWERS THAT BEEEE decreed my pre adolscent itchings to be no more the rotters

Right then, here are a few answers...

White dog poo........manufacturers used to bulk out the meat with ground up bone, bone not readily digested, result white *****

ABBA funnily I was only thinking about the 2 girls last night..... :innocent

Black Jap screws.....banned by the Ood or the Toclafein. [got deducted a brownie point by NIC as the screws slots had rusted where the driver was inserted....cited 'materials not fit for purpose'...I kid you not! Fricking ******

Heres a few more

Alex plugs [Ali rawlplugs]

Fastfix [asbestos cement rawlplug]

Red plugs that were really black... :coat

She's still there.

There's a "hidden" testcard on freeview.

You can display the test card on any reasonably new Freeview receiver

using the following steps. Note that some older set top boxes do not

fully conform with the specifications and may be unable to access this

service.

1. Tune to the BBCi channel (currently ch. 105)

2. When the BBCi background appears, press Yellow (within 30 secs)

3. Tune away to a different channel

4. Tune back to the BBCi channel (currently ch. 105)

5. When the BBCi background appears, press Green (within 30 secs)

The word 'Secret' will appear in the top right hand corner

6. Wait until the status page appears

7. Enter 3, 3, 5, 8, 2, Red, Green, Yellow, Blue

(note "33582" spells out the word "DELTA" on a mobile phone keypad)

8. Wait approximately 30 seconds

Test card W will appear

Don't get too excited.

What happened to all the Ford Cortinas ?

The famous Tony Hancock TV "Blood Doner" sketch was shown,in B&W, 1000years ago and only bits of it were ever shown afterwards. This was not good for someone who had developed a crush on the unknown blonde nurse in the opening scene.

Then Youtube came along and there she was again .......... turned out to be none other than June Whitfield !!!! :Blushing

when did 2580 stop being the code for free phone calls from the private payphones in shops/shopping centres etc?

when did being an electrician stop being a proper trade?

when did having tattoos become a trendy accessory to the sheep?

I never got on with black enamel, the bender always used to mark it.
