they have the same numbers on them do they not?

sorry I see now you have sets of L1(1) L2(1) and com (1) then the same for (2) and (3)

Old switch has three groups of contacts labelled '1', '2' & '3' for each switch..

New switch has three groups of contacts labelled ('COM1', 'L11', 'L12'), ('COM2', 'L21', 'L22'), ('COM3', 'L31', 'L32')

I would suggest:-
The new 'COM1', 'COM2' & 'COM3' will be the three '1's on your old switch.
The new 'L11', 'L21' & 'L31' will be the three '2's on your old switch.
The new 'L12', 'L22' & 'L32' will be the three '3's on your old switch.

On old switch the 4 across the top just says 3, 2, top common, 3, 2 across bottom common, 3, 2, common.
Then on new L1, L2, L3 across top then just below is com1, com2
Then across bottom is L12, L22, L32 with a com3 above between L22 and L32.
I’m so confused I don’t understand why so different. Thanks.

Would it not be fair to say that if Bonita had a meter and knew how to use it, that would have been the first thing to do?

if you look at the old switch from left to right they are in groups of three the first two at the top plus the fist on the bottom making com(1) 2,3, this is the first switch, then the next one at the top is com(1) bottom next two 2,3, being the second switch and the next top and last two 2,3, and the last bottom com(1) the third
now the new switch if you look close you will see each com has a number 1,2,3, this is the set they belong too, the same with L1 and L2 they have set marks as well
hope this helps
