i've always regarded the bbc as being 'establishment' biased. I certainly think the quality of journalism is falling with lots of over-coverage of trivial matters and increasingly large amounts of advertising their own programmes. For example this week they have been promoting the programme about domestic pets - 10-15mins of prime morning news time. On the odd occasion I'm up at 6am the news coverage is far superior, with proper articles about the econonomy, world politics, and generally far less 'fluff', and none of the following trivia from helicopters wasting large amounts of money.

The problem with the BBC is that its too big and has too many channels.

Cut the number of channels and hey presto, less air time to fill and hey presto, the repeats should reduce and the quality should improve.

That said getting the civil service mentality out of the BBC employees is easier said then done!

A large proportion of the people who complain about paying the TV licence, are also paying Sky huge sums of money every year AND watching 16 minutes of adverts per hour. So they are effectively "paying" twice to watch Sky

At £145.50 per year I'll happy pay it - all I'd like is "public" representation on the BBC board as I'm fed up with it being the unofficial TV channel of The Guardian.
I meet this mentality a lot.

A side line of mine is tv aerials and satellite dishes.  we had a storm just after Christmas and I had a lot of call outs.

One was an old lady who's terrestrial aerial had come down and I had to fix it.  She was in a flap as "I have no television" and due to the weather it was a few days before I could get there.

When I arrived she was watching tv on her sky box  :C

It turns out she had just switched from Sky to Talk Talk for her tv (which is a mix of terrestrial and iptv) and in here words "the old sky box shouldn't still work, but it seems to"

Some people seem to have no concept any more that there is plenty of free tv available and an old sky box will still receive all the free channels quite legally.  She had switched to Talk Talk as it is 1/3 the price of sky, but I really got the impression she knew nothing about the free options.

Reading between the lines it would appear that some members feel the good old Auntie Beeb is not as far beyond reproach as first thought!

Well I suppose there was

Cover ups of 70s TV personalities being rampant and proven paedophiles

Jimmy Savile being allowed to have a dip at whoever he wanted as long as they were below the age of consent

Obscene amounts of money paid to Presenters, Cameramen, relocation expenses

Golden handshakes that were larger than the national, debt of a small Principality

Some of the kiddy fiddly diddlers have been brought to Count, rolf, stuart Hall, king, Savile, that other DJ that just got slotted. Only the tip of the iceberg, i bet there are a lot just waiting for the knock on the door

Did you see how many BBC staff it needed for the World Cup/olympics/commonwealth games

Just paying towards their wages

I take on board what you say ......( Blimey I'm becoming a politician)  ...and did not understand the move to Salford TBH & the closing of Broadcasting House in London .  You'd think they had all the infrastructure in there they needed.  I know they've done cost cutting , Pebble Mill down here was closed down .

The comment about Civil Servants is pertinent , although at it's inception it was changed to a Corporation  to , apparently, prevent the government from controlling it's output.   I agree there seem to be some axes ground in there.    And the  Fiddley Diddley culture.

I'm not a great TV watcher   but sometimes I see the endless channels I now have on Freesat and TBH if I knew how I could delete scores of them I would.

It goes from the BBC's excellent drama  & comedy output say, to a channel that shows back to back episodes of Bonanza with hours of adverts.

ITV also produce excellent stuff but it is in their broadcasting license remit to produce home made programmes and NOT just buy -in hours of dross from the US .    ( Not icluding Frasier in that comment )

Just pontificating
